Problem Solved

The research team at Innovative Formulations Company (IFC) lived up to their name again and developed a truly innovative, new material for Caltrans that solved all of their previous problems. IFC's solution also brought new value added aspects that will benefit all stakeholders in California's State Highway System which comprises of more than 51,000 lane miles.

Bridge-locK (BL) is a multi functional product designed to be used for coatings, overlays and patching applications on highways and bridges. It is a 100% solids, water-based two component epoxy binder system with moderate viscosity. It is a low odor, VOC-free product. It is environmentally friendly and contains none hazmat materials. BL is largely bio-based (renewable products) as opposed to petroleum-based.

The material is mixed in a 3 to 1 ratio of resin to activator which sets off an exothermic reaction which chemically cross-links the product. It is highly fortified with hyper surfactants which greatly enhances its wetting and flow characteristics. These surfactants, added to the small molecular size of the BL resin, give the product continuous flow characteristics which enable the material to coat an extremely high percentage of the aggregate. BL essentially encapsulates the aggregate which aids in the production of an easily compacted monolithic product of extreme strength and flexibility. It combines with a high volume of aggregate ,and has excellent holding strength and very low shrinkage. It can be blended and feathered into concrete, asphalt, steel, itself and other work surfaces.

BL has a good pot life over a wide temperature range with a predictable work time. It can be blended and feathered into concrete, asphalt, steel, itself and other work surfaces. BL can be mixed and installed manually for small project or with most automatic equipment for larger applications.

Being water-based Bridge-locK is very tolerant of damp and wet surfaces. BL can be used with it either wet or dry aggregate. The materials wetting agents and molecular structure allowed BL to penetrate old hardened concrete as well as new, green or damp concrete. It also bonds well to itself even after curing. It bonds to steel ,even with minor rust. It bonds to asphalt as well. BL can also penetrate (emulsify) through oil stains and grease marks which allow for easy application to surfaces that are not in fully prepared.

Clean up is easy using our solvent-free, Prop.65 compliant, cleaner (G-55) and release agents. No specialized protective work gear is require when using our products
